Disaster movies are my guilty pleasure. Junk food for the brain. Some of the made-for-TV movies are the best comedy on TV. And the made-for-theater movies — well, there’s nothing like watching California sinking into the Pacific to brighten up your day. Thanks for the updated listing. Looks like the summer of 2011 will be a great one.

Has anyone seen 500 MPH Storm? (I think that was the name of it) Made in 2013. On Netflicks last April (2013). I finally had time to watch it last weekend. I haven’t seen Sharknado, but I’m guessing this one comes close to beating it for REALLY AWFUL.
There are two movies based around earthquakes. Both are a miniseries made for TV. One is called 10.5 and the other is called 10.5: Apocalypse. 10.5 is the better of the two (from my P.O.V). I don’t know how you’ll be able to watch them, but those are suggestions.
You don’t have the movie Firestorm with Howie Long on your list.
Freezing temperature and ice cold weather disaster movies give me the chills. Lol. I learn how to stay warm since I hate being cold. I have seen it snow once in Hawaii and still terrified of the earth freezing over for whatever reason. Brr

Impressive and very useful blog. Another movie that (I think) should be on the list is the 1990 movie “The Great Los Angeles Earthquake”. One of the features that I have enjoyed in it was the emphasis on earthquake prediction, a theme very popular in that time.
Coming soon to the U.S. The Norwegian disaster film Bølgen release here as The Wave. A landslide into a forjd creates a monster wave that destroys a town. I saw this with subtitles and it’s great. For you who with Amazon streaming look for the Russian film Metro (2013) with English subtitles it’s another great disaster film set in a flooded subway.
Just released on Amazon a 5 movie DVD set called the Disaster Collection. Includes the never released on home video in the US TV movie The Day the Earth Moved (1974). Also included is Epicenter, the Chain Reaction, The Day the Earth Exploded, Fire from Below. But beware all the movies are on one DVD so the quality suffers. It’s under $10.00. Amazon streaming has a HD quality of The TV movie called Smash-up on Interstate 5 (1976).
In what concernes the Norwegian movie “The Wave”, I agree that is a film with a quality well above the average of the disaster movies. I also recomend it, without hesitation.
