Duelling Earthquakes

Coming Attractions.Lost producer/writer Carlton Cuse has reportedly been brought in to rewrite the New Line/Warner Bros earthquake flick San Andreas 3D. Apparently the studio wasn’t entirely happy with the earlier draft by Allan Loeb. The project has also picked up a director in the form of Brad Peyton, whose earlier work includes Journey 2: The Mysterious Island and Cats & Dogs: The revenge of Kitty Galore. Yeah, I guess we’ll see how that works out.

In related news, Universal and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot are planning to offer up some competition with their own earthquake movie, titled Earthquake (or Untitled J.J. Abrams Earthquake Project, as IMDb puts it). Despite the reported title, this is not a remake of the 1974 Charlton Heston extravaganza. This project was hatched back in 2008, and the recent development is that Dustin Lance Black (Milk, J. Edgar) has been brought in to write a new screenplay.

Similarly-themed disaster movies trying to beat each other into cinemas? Oh my God, it’s 1998 all over again…

  1. I hope one of these films isn’t set in Los Angeles, L.A I know is an obvious choice but it would be interesting to see a different earthquake prone city used, Shaken In Seattle? Maybe!
